The clients brief was to create an open plan living kitchen dining space along with additional bedroom suites, music room, home offices and full refurbishment. The existing houses symmetrical Georgian arrangement and proportions made lead us towards achieving the principle extension to the property in a barn style to compliment the house and adjacent barn arrangement. It also retained the symmetry of the house. The attic of the house was opened up whilst retaining a long term habitat for the hibernating bats.

The new single storey open fronted barn with fully glazed doors links into the 2 and half storey barn complete with oak trussed mezzanine sleeping galleries with integrated stairs.

The application had to be taken before the planning committee due to the excessive size of the extension being against policy. It was supported and presented by the planning officer for approval due to the quality of its design and how well it was integrated with the existing.
