This Grade II Listed Dairy Farm is located within the grounds of Burghley House, one of the greatest Elizabethan country houses in England. Set in the Capability Brown parklands, The Dairy Farm is widely recognised as part of the cross country course for the internationally acclaimed Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials.

The Dairy had lain derelict for some 30 years with a string of undeveloped schemes waiting to bring the building back into use when Harris McCormack Architects was commissioned to work on the building.

Our Brief was to; ‘create a multi-functional space that can accommodate private fine dining for patrons or corporate events such as seminars or meetings.’ The building also had to offer flexible, multi / sole occupancy accommodation that could be rented out to the public for short or extended breaks.

Works began internally with the careful removal of significant items required to be retained by the listing, such as; cast iron cattle stalls, metal window frames & timber stall boarding; later to be reinstalled to influence design & retain the character of the building.

Externally The Dairy underwent extensive brickwork restoration, the construction of a completely new roof and modern double glazed sliding sash windows concealed behind the reinstated metal window frames.

The end result is a stunning example of how to regenerate a heritage asset; the building has been entered into several conservation awards since completion.
