The brief
Create a mixed use building providing a washroom for campers, an office for the staff with wc and kitchette and external store provision, all of which should align with the values of the The Chellington Centre in inspiring the visitors, and suitably accompany the St Nicholas Church and surrounding setting
The solution
Sat atop a hill in the glorious rolling hills of the Bedfordshire countryside, The St Nicholas church visible from miles around. The Chellington Centre provides a safe, inspirational and rural setting for young people to develop and grow.
For the Chellington Centre to deliver its ethos it needed a suitable space for the staff to curate and manage, and a washroom for the visitors to use. The building delivered enhances the existing centre and is an aesthetically pleasing addition to the setting. The building is formed in a continuation of materials exhibited on site, and in time will weather to match the church blending seamlessly into the site.
